Old business and approval of last meeting’s minutes

  • Unanimous vote to approve minutes from January’s meeting

Treasurer’s Report/Revised Budget/Approval of Revised Budget

  • January’s biggest activity was spirit wear
  • February had a pseudo expense, an error already corrected
  • Current balance is $22,761 but many expenses coming in the spring
Harold Archie
New Business

  • Recognition of volunteer support during auditions and shows
  • Volunteers needed to support spring musical
  • Junior talent show will be April 1st, admission is $5 at the door, no advanced reservations.
  • Parents should watch for calendar changes on the website, currently there’s a proposal for a few days to make up for weather related closures.
  • Spirit night at Avondale Pizza Café on E. College Rd. to benefit the visual arts at DSA.
  • Arts on the Rail with participation of DSA students, March 15 12-8pm
  • DSA was recognized for AP testing accomplishments by the College Board.

  • Nominating committee: the following volunteered to form the nominating committee: Narayahan Rajan (chair), Jeff Vanderlon, Alan Wilson, Maureen Shelton, and Ms. McCauley. Two alternates volunteered: Maureen Middlebrook and Kate Phillips.
  • Legislative update:
    • Parents Council United town hall meeting will take place on March 22nd at Tucker High School
    • Board of Education forums on April 22 and 29. Important opportunities to hear from candidates for office.

Principal’s Report/Announcements

  • Staff acknowledgment
  • There was a record number of auditions this year, letters of acceptance were scheduled to be mailed on Friday.
  • DSA recently received awards for site reading, equity in AP classes and in 3 other AP areas, mock trial group and black history tour show. A first place for drama/theater pieces.
  • Best way to obtain tickets for upcoming musical is to email box office.
  • Finals were moved in the calendar but not so graduation. Still May 21st at the Emory Performing Arts Center, parking is free.
  • Students who are either absent or late should return with a written excuse from their Dr.

Assistant Principal’s Announcements

  • Progress reports will be out 3/20.
  • 8th grade writing results are expected soon.
  • Payment letters for AP tests were sent home with students.
  • Welcome Ms. Donna Howard, our new office staff worker.
  • Ms. Lambert was selected Teacher of the Year and Mr. Ron Turner the support person of the year. Both honors will be presented in the fall.

2012-13 Reflections Awards

  • First place award recipients: Rebecca Tuney, Jenah Gevetz, Kayla Favors, Sarah Lewis, Christiano Mariano, Madeleine Lang, Kayla Crumbly, Henry Howell, Abigail Shelton and Maya Rajan
  • Second places went to Taylor Jones, Josette Vanderlon, Justin Sashlee, Destiny Smith, and Sofia Sefert
  • Technology Fair recognitions to: Tobia Henderson, Joy Jones, Kayla Crumbley, and Tyler Webb.

PTSA Announcements/Q&A/Adjournment

  • Volunteer acknowledgment and request for nominations for chairs of volunteer committees (e.g., box office, spirit wear) and for supporting upcoming shows and Fringe Festival.
  • Parents are encouraged to support local businesses and state our affiliation with DSA; over time, reciprocity with the businesses will benefit DSA.
  • The main stage voucher program requires that parents complete a form and then claim at the box office.
