PTSA General Meeting Minutes
Thursday, September 1, 2011

Call to Order 7:02 pm
Welcome/Introduction Rex Garrett , PTSA President

Introduction of Committee Chairpersons Monica Hargrave, PTSA Vice President

o Volunteer Coordinator

Announcements:
• Membership table is outside; dues are $5 pp
• Enrichment Fund – encourage you to any level you can and you can make up to 3 payments per year; goes to; complete the form for payment; place in envelope and drop at the front desk;
• Spirit Wear – selling out of some items; on sale today.
• Premiere Weekend (Sept. 30th – Oct. 2nd)

Review of Minutes: August 2011 Approval of Previous Minutes: Accepted as printed

Treasurers Report
• Review of treasurers report, it is provisional as it is subject to revisions, pending closure of Aug financials
• Highlights:
• Over budget on expense for spirit wear – most of remaining items would be profit
• Dues turned in to date were for a total of 428 memberships; goal is 500; shared amt with national; DSA PTSA keeps $1.75 per membership.
• Teacher appreciation funds raised
• 2/3 way to enrichment fees – aids in focal efforts, etc..
• Expenses for Aug – spirit wear, agendas, sold 300 agendas;

Old Business:
• Microwaves – PTA purchased one microwave for cafeteria – currently total of 4; continue to forward comments to Rex if there are any issues

New Business:
• Reflections – deadline is October 14; all categories will be available; all forms are now available on the PTSA website; Physical copies of the forms will be distributed to designated art teachers
• If you signed up for a committee and have not been contacted, please note sign up sheets for some have not been distributed as of yet; may not hear from some of them for a minute; should receive contact soon
• Just Between Friends – 35 families signed up so far; tonight’s meeting is currently listed so you can add your volunteer hours; if you are having trouble, look in this week at DSA for more info on sign up; backup method for listing your hours will be the box in the front office
• Is it mobile friendly – no app available but can access it via mobile internet
• Check your spam if you haven’t received your email
• What happens when you make a donation of product, how are hours recorded? Looking into it. It is only valid for up to 10 hours per semester
• Scenery Saturday – for those who like to build, you can gain volunteer hours this weekend; what happens behind the curtain; this is the first one; meet the technical team; from 10-4 this Saturday, Sept 3rd
• Website – updates have been made; last year’s fundraising is still there but will be updated once the EC meets to discuss and finalize plans
• Announcement – the board has considered request from the Creative Writing dept – bringing 2 authors in this school year; avg cost is $1500 per author plus travel expenses; EB decided to donate $1200 to the Creative Writing Dept
• Yearbooks – check the website, Junior/Senior it’s included in your dues; grades 8, 9, 10 check online or contact Mr. Taffe directly. Should be in two weeks.
• Parent Involvement Committee – there are some parents who do not attend PTSA meetings; work to determine how we can communicate with those families to pull them in; improve parental involvement
• Survey to evaluate the schools from the county – just received results a couple weeks ago; will present at next meeting
• Grants and Scholarship Committee – look for opportunities for our school to donate money to DSA; would like to raise the visibility of the school. Please share ideas; submit to Rex
