This Week at DSA….. Back to School Edition Aug 5th – Aug 9th

8/7 OPEN HOUSE
DSA Open House and Registration Day!!! New families will receive schedules, join PTSA, and meet teachers. Returning families will do all that, plus pick-up registration packets with DSA required forms and submit updated proof of residency. Free and reduced lunch applications will be available that day as well (all families, whether renewing or new to this program, will need to complete 2013-2014 application). $5 Student Agendas and Spirit Wear will be on sale, as well as sign up for volunteer opportunities. Please plan to attend.

♪ We are excited to announce the addition of three new members to the DSA Staff this year.

♪ Summer Reading – Did your student complete their summer reading? Time is running out and students will be assessed on the readings at the start of the year.
♪ Many of you have been inquiring about the K-12 transition regarding the DESA/DSA merge and/or facility update meetings for the upcoming school year. After coordinating with Mr. Powell (DESA Principal), it was decided to hold a meeting, August 6, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at DeKalb Elementary School of the Arts. (797 Fayetteville Road Atlanta, GA  30316 – Cafeteria).  You can expect the meeting to last no more than 30 to 45 minutes. I look forward to seeing you here on the above listed date.

REMINDERS

♪ Parents are asked to update address and phone numbers through the Parent Portal. Families will still need to submit an updated Proof of Residency on registration day, but any changes should be made be the family through the portal. The portal will be active on August 12, 2013.
♪ Basic School Supply List: 6-8 2″ three ring binders, notebook paper, #2 pencils, blue/black ink pens, colored pencils, printer paper for student use, thumb/flash drive. Additional items will be listed on individual teacher syllabi at the start of the year.
♪ 2013-2014 School Nutrition Meal Prices: Meal prices for breakfast and lunch for elementary, middle, and high schools.

We need volunteers for set-up, manning the tables for Spirit Wear, Registration Packets, etc., and break down after the event. Everyone’s help is welcome, including students!!! You can start earning your volunteer hours before school even starts!!!
